Monica Macansantos at Brazos Bookstore

Monica Macansantos is a Filipino writer from Baguio. She is the author of the story collection, Love and Other Rituals, published in 2022 by Grattan Street Press and is a 2024-2025 Shearing Fellow at the Black Mountain Institute in Las Vegas. A former James A. Michener Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Colorado Review, The Hopkins Review, Bennington Review, River Styx, Electric Literature, and Literary Hub, among other places. She earned her PhD in Creative Writing from the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, and has held residencies at Hedgebrook, the I-Park Foundation, and Storyknife Writers Retreat, among others. 

Karen Siu (she/her/hers) is a PhD candidate in English at Rice University specializing in Southeast Asian American literature. As a child and grandchild of Vietnamese refugees, her work is personal and political, intertwining oral histories and creative nonfiction with academic writing. She follows a tenet of Critical Refugees Studies that these histories, experiences, and memories are worth knowing and studying. Beyond her writing, she co-founded the Rice Asian Diasporic and Asian American Research Collective (RADAAR), a space for advocacy, scholarly exchange, and community partnerships on Asian American Studies and Asian American political organizing in Texas.
