1900 Galveston Storm 125th Anniversary with Matt Lanza at Brazos Bookstore

  • Brazos Bookstore 2421 Bissonnet Street Houston, TX 77005-1451 (map)

Brazos hosts Space City Weather’s Matt Lanza on Tuesday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. for an event commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Galveston Great Storm.

The Great Storm of 1900 hit Galveston on September 8 and is still the deadliest natural disaster in US history, with an official fatality count of 8,000, with some sources estimating up to 12,000. Join us as Matt  talks about the storm’s impacts not just in Galveston, but farther inland as well, along with the storm’s continuing legacy and modern hurricanes. Anyone who follows weather knows that Space City Weather is the source for hype-free forecasts with a heavy splash of humor and personality so this will be an evening of history, meteorology, and entertainment!

We will feature books about the storm and have local authors Gregory Funderburk (The Mourning Wave) and Paul Remmers (Island Intern) here to sign their storm-related books.
